RetroGrid
A REAPER JSFX plugin for crunchy old-sampler character: clipping, waveshaping, ring modulation, bit reduction, sample-rate reduction, and a built-in scope.
RetroGrid is inspired by the rough sample character of old Fruity Loops, before FL Studio became the polished production environment it is now. It leans into the distorted 4-bit and 8-bit edges, clipped one-shots, metallic ring-mod movement, and reduced sample feel that can make small sounds cut through with strange charm.
What Is Inside
Waveshape Drive
Arctangent-style saturation before the lofi stage.
Ring Mod
Sine or sawtooth modulation for metallic and game-like sidebands.
Bit Depth
Resolution reduction for 8-bit, 4-bit, and broken sampler textures.
Sample Rate Reducer
Held samples and aliasing for older digital playback character.
Hard Clipper
A fixed threshold ceiling for flat, forward, crushed peaks.
Scope
Cyan and magenta waveform display with red clipping zones.
Installation
Copy plugins/RetroGrid.jsfx to the REAPER Effects folder. In REAPER, open Options > Show REAPER resource path in explorer/finder, then open Effects and place the JSFX file there.
Inside REAPER the current effect name is Retro-Grit Master (Sinus RM & Fixed Scope).
